CRUMLIN IPS NEWSLETTER-MAY/JUNE 2022

It is hard to believe that we are fast approaching the end of the school year. We have had a very busy year in school and this will continue until the end of term. This newsletter will give you information on events or dates for your diary, coming up in June.

Bus strike

We have been informed of a strike by bus drivers which will impact pupils who get a bus to and from school. If the strike goes ahead there will be no buses from Tuesday, 16th May until Monday, 23rd May 2022. This situation is beyond the power of school. Our bus service is organised by the Education Authority and they contract Translink to provide a bus for the school.

We understand that buses for pupils will start again on Tuesday, 24th May 2022.

SPORTS DAY

The annual school sports day will take place on Tuesday 14th June from 11am-12.20pm. We are delighted that parents will be able to attend the outdoor event this year. Please note that parents will not be allowed into the school building on this day.

All pupils will finish at the end of the sports day at 12.20pm. This will allow teachers time to prepare for an event taking place the following day. There will not be an afternoon bus available on this day.

Jubilee Celebrations

Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth celebrates 70 years as Monarch this year and events will take place across the country to commemorate this milestone. We will also mark this celebration with a fun day/picnic on Wednesday, 15th June 2022.

The focus of our celebrations will be the 70 year reign, with each year group learning about a different decade. During our fun day, the pupils will be encouraged to dress up for their decade. The class teachers will keep you informed about your child’s decade. We hope that by focusing on the decades, that our Jubilee celebrations will be inclusive for everyone in our school community.

Our fun day has been sponsored by the Department of Education. If you would prefer your child to be removed from any lessons or celebration linked to the Queen’s Jubilee, please inform the class teacher.

School will be closed for two days, due to the Jubilee,on Thursday, 2nd and Friday, 3rd June 2022!

Y5 Myths & Legends

LIBRARY VISITS

During the summer term our classes have had the opportunity to visit the local library. The children are enjoying these visits to read the books and listen to some storytelling. We’d like to thank Crumlin Library for hosting us each week. We hope that some of the children will get the opportunity to visit the library during the summer break.

CLASS TRIPS

Between now and the end of term some of the classes may choose to go on an educational visit during the school day. Unfortunately, all of these trips come at a cost. We will endeavour to keep costs to a minimum but I am sure that you will all understand that transport and venue costs have risen considerably in the past couple of years. Class teachers will send out information if your child’s class is planning a school trip.
